Poll: What do you think is an acceptable age gap in a relationship?

It’s the topic of the week on daytime TV.

OVER THE LAST week or so, the topic of age gap relationships has been all over the internet and TV.

The Channel 5 programme Age Gap Love is set to return for a new series, and some of the couples involved in the show have been doing some interviews and sharing their stories in order to promote the show.

There’s plenty of shocking stories, like the 47-year-old bus driver who was forced out of his hometown in North Wales after he began a relationship with his friend’s 16-year-old daughter, or the 82-year-old woman who revealed the workout routine she uses to keep up with her 39-year-old boyfriend in bed.

The topic has since been spoken about on daytime TV chat-shows like Loose Women. People are definitely divided on the topic, with many wondering what the hell a 47-year-old bus driver would have in common with a 16-year-old school girl. There’s a massive difference in maturity even between a 16-year-old and a 18-year-old, as well as between an 18-year-old and a 21-year-old, never mind a teenager and somebody in their 40s.

The Loose Women panel (Janet Street-Porter in particular, as she has been known to date men in their 20s) believed that an age gap can be a positive thing in a relationship. Penny Lancaster disagreed and told the other women that she’d much rather go out with somebody who was as mature as she was. The discussion ended with Penny eventually concluding that “If both people are being gratified in the relationship and it’s not just one-sided, then it’s a perfect balance.”

So, what do you think is an acceptable age gap in a relationship?
